Checkmate Moving

Small moves in Winnipeg

A few rooms, a few big pieces, or one awkward couch. Small and partial moves are welcome. Just ask.

No job too small to ask about

Not every move is a whole house. Maybe you're moving out of a bachelor suite, bringing a couch home from a family member, moving a dresser between apartments, or splitting a household. Lots of people assume a moving company won't bother with a small job. We'd rather you ask.

Checkmate Moving is owner-operated and local to Winnipeg and surrounding area. Call or text 204-995-5469, tell us what's moving and where, and we'll give you a straight answer and a free quote.

Common small moves

  • Studio and one-bedroom apartments
  • A few rooms out of a bigger house
  • Single heavy or awkward items, like a sectional, a dresser or a treadmill
  • Moving things into or out of storage
  • Helping load or unload a truck or container you've arranged yourself

Getting an accurate quote

The more you tell us, the better the quote. When you reach out, let us know:

  • Roughly what's moving. A short list or a few photos helps.
  • Where it's coming from and going to (area or neighbourhood is fine).
  • Stairs or elevators at each end.
  • Any heavy or special items.
  • Your date, or a rough idea of it.

Quotes are free and there's no pressure to book.

Tips for a smooth small move

  • Have boxes packed, taped and labelled before we arrive.
  • Take apart anything you can, like bed frames or table legs. Bag and tape the screws to the piece.
  • Measure doorways at the new place for big furniture.
  • If you're in a building, book the elevator.
  • Clear a path from the door to the items that are going.

Small moves often come together quickly. If your date is close, still reach out and we'll tell you honestly whether we can fit it in.

Rain or snow

Even a one-couch move gets the same care. On rainy or snowy days we pad and cover everything going in and out.
